- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar (plus more to taste)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1½ cups mozzarella cheese (freshly shredded)
- ¼ cup whole milk
- 2½ cups lukewarm water
- Nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine masarepa flour, salt, sugar, room temperature butter, and shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well.
- Gradually add whole milk and lukewarm water while mixing the dough until smooth. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.
- Divide the dough into six equal portions, rolling each into a ball and flattening them into discs about ½ inch thick.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Cook the arepas for approximately 5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
