Ingredients
- 10 whole banana peppers
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 1 small onion (diced)
- 2–3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded Italian cheese blend
- 1 large egg
- Spices: Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, salt, and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Prepare banana peppers by cutting off stems and creating a slit down one side; remove seeds.
- In a skillet, sauté diced onions and minced garlic in butter or olive oil until softened.
- In a mixing bowl, combine Italian sausage, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, sautéed onions and garlic, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper; mix well.
- Spread marinara sauce evenly in a baking dish.
- Stuff each banana pepper with the sausage mixture and place in the dish.
- Cover with foil and bake for about 55 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheese on top, return to oven for an additional 5 minutes until melted.
- Serve warm garnished with parsley.
